Algorithms for maritime applications
An algorithm is a part of automation that can perform calculation, data processing and automated reasoning. When correctly written it will be able to control operations in a logic and automated way improving the operations of a ship.
In order to protect Venice from high tides the MOSE plan was made up by Italian authorities. In this plan a flood protection infrastructure had to be placed at the inlets of the lagunes. Part of this infrastructure were mattresses which are deployed from a pontoon, carrying a mattress storage cylinder 2m under water.
Algorithms for automated control
Imotec used a virtual model to determine the automation algorithms to automatically place the mattresses. This was done by control of the winches that manipulated the cables connected to the anchors. A full automatic control was implemented and commissioned on the pontoon.
